Dr. Philecia C. Avery is the former Vice President of Pharmacy of The Kroger Co. Dr. Avery led Kroger’s retail, mail and central fill pharmacy teams, with the mission to provide a holistic approach to healthcare in all Kroger-owned retail stores. As Vice President of Pharmacy, Philecia was responsible for setting strategy and leading Kroger’s $10 billion pharmacy P&L in nearly 2,300 pharmacies with over 22,000 pharmacy associates in 35 states and the District of Columbia. Dr. Avery made history as The Kroger Co.’s first female and first African American to attain this position. Philecia’s 20+ year-career in healthcare management spans across customer experience, retail operations, marketing, innovation, and pharmacy services. Always driven by impact and improvement, she created and established Kroger Pharmacy’s” Get A Shot, Give A Meal Program”, creating an innovative way to solve for our national health and food disparities.
In 2017, Dr. Avery launched Philecia Dayle, LLC, a healthcare consulting and leadership development company. With the mission “To remove barriers and bias of higher learning and living through access, resources and empowerment”, a highly sought out consultant, facilitator, and speaker, she has partnered with Xavier University, University of Cincinnati, Miami University of OH Alumni Association, Cincinnati State, Duke Electric, the American Heart Association, to name a few. She’s helped to build curriculum and execute training for the State of OH Department of Health, and successfully trained over 600 employees in 5 months for a startup who supported the 2020 Census. Philecia is an author and creator of PDLLC’s “Goal Setting and Vision Board Workshop”, where she’s led hundreds of individuals, teams and organizations through their journey of creating their own Personal and Professional Strategic Plan, with many reaching goals they thought were unattainable. The mastermind behind the women’s networking event, Bosses And Bourbon, her curated community provides women leaders a “straight no chaser” intentional space to access advice and resources to support their growth. The network has impacted over 300 women in 5 states in less than 2 years.
Active in multiple community, business, and service organizations since 1997, Dr. Avery is a member of several professional, service and leadership organizations including the American Pharmacist Association, OH Diversity Council- Cincinnati Founding Board Member, and the Society of Emotional Intelligence. In her 20+ year tenure in Jack and Jill of America, Inc., Dr. Avery has served in many leadership roles, including President and on the Regional Teen Advisor Committee. While President, she led the creation and successful execution of the now signature fundraising event that has been an annual event for over 7 years. She is a 30-year member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. and has served in many leadership roles, created nationally utilized leadership curriculum, and served as a Soror Leader, a national role mentoring college seniors. She is a member of the Nashville (TN) Chapter of The Links, Inc., serving as a Foundation Ambassador and previous Communication/PR Chair. Dr. Avery served on the 2019 STEM Goes Red Steering Committee and was the 2020 Co-Chair of the STEM Goes Red event, and current STEM Goes Red Mentor. Carrying on her commitment to impact and improvement, she has served as an advisor to several startups and small business leaders.
Philecia is a proud graduate of Xavier University of Louisiana’s College of Pharmacy, where she obtained her Doctor of Pharmacy Degree and serves as Chair, COP Advisory Board. She is a MHS (Multi Health Systems) Certified Emotional Intelligence Coach and Facilitator. A graduate of the Urban League of Greater Cincinnati’s African American Leadership Development Program, Cornell University Food Executive Program, Founding Member, KY/OH AMCP Affiliate, and past member of The Children’s Home of Cincinnati Young Professional Board, 2015 Most Influential Woman in OH Award, 2016 IMS Health Bernie Greenberg Award, 2017 Wise Woman, are just a few of her awards, affiliates and accolades.
Philecia is the mother of two AWE-mazing young adults, whom she considers provides her most rewarding and notable position ever gained. Add her pooch Bella and she's in heaven. When not creating innovative solutions for businesses and individuals, she is creating innovative and tasty treats in the kitchen, as a self-proclaimed “Health Foodie and Southern Food Aficionado”.
